Three songs from the new album are up:

- Dear John
- King of the Jailhouse
- Goodbye, Caroline

I've read a little about what the album is about, and it's a concept album. I love the art that is apparently going to be in the liner notes. From the sound of the songs, they're not quite as depressing as Lost in Space was. I really like what I hear so far.

I heard them and wish she would challenge herself more musically. I'm probably alone on this one.

No, you're not alone. It's taken me a few listen-throughs to get into this album, but now I love it.

But she's definitely found a "sound" and seems to be sticking with it. I don't find her recent stuff to be as instantly catchy/likeable as her first few albums. I still love her music, though.

yeah, I'm not so impressed with this new album.
It's ok, but Lost in Space was just so... amazing, I feel like her music just kept getting better and better until now, but this album is disappointingly anticlimactic. Especially considering it took her almost 3 years to finish this piece, I expected a little bit more, you know???

Agreed. She seems in a rut.

Saw her live for the first time at the Birchmere last night. Wasn't anything unexpected, though, since I have her DVD of the St. Anne's Warehouse show.
