Re: Fillmore Show 8/12?
Sat, August 13, 2005 - 10:10 AMWell, the show overall was great. The sound production was awesome, the instrumentation was flawless, and AImee was fun and funny and in good spirits. She showed off her new tattoo that she just got that day... and she told some great stories about touring with Bob Dylan.
She Played mostly stuff from the new album, and she told the story between songs, which made me appreciate what she's trying to do with her music more than when I'd first listened to it.
She also played my request, "That's Just What You Are" the very first AImee mann song I ever heard!
I must say that the only thing that made it unbearable were the dorky annoying fans. Well, not all of them, but a few in particular.
There was this gay Latin couple standing right behind me, and when she played "Save Me" (which is a quiet, intimate song) one of these tone-deaf assholes decides to sing along at the top of his lungs, so loud I could barely hear Aimee! AND he didn't know the words, so he just kept moaning really loudly to the tune, and then would belt out an off-key "Sa-HEY-HEY-Uh-ve Meee!" on each chorus. I finally was able to move away from them, but some how they found me again! THen when she asked for requests, they kept yelling "LONGSHOT! LONGSHOOOOOOT!!!!!" to the point that AImee had to say, "please, right it down on a piece of paper, sir!" (god I love her!)
SO,
There was this other annoying fan standing right in the front, and he was going off dancing, throwing his hands up in the air and freaking out! AImee knelt down and shook her head, mouthing "Please Stop", but he kept going. Between songs, whe ran over to the side of the stage and shouted something to the stage hand. The next thing you know, in the middle of the next song, a big security guard had to come over to the guy and tell him "Aimee has personally asked you to cut it out, she's very distracted" or something like that.
SO, I guess I sound like a bitter asshole, but believe me, it was really stoopid annoying! I mean, we all love AImee mann, but just settle down! This is not a rave or a Slayer concert or something, Jesus! Luckily I was on the guest list, because if I'd paid $30 for that show, i would've turned around and punched those guys in the face! (just kidding).
